We as screenwriters need as many tools in our toolbox as possible.
Understanding screenwriting elements such as the difference between scenes, sequences and transitions is a wonderful tool to have.
So much of writing a screenplay (assuming you've already found your story organically and plotted it) is finding the right rhythm, pacing, style.
Knowing when to write a scene, a sequence or a transition is something you get better at with practice.
For instance: you don't want to write two intense dialogue scenes back to back. You need a breather in between. A transition.
